Many children of military parents are accustomed to relocating and starting over in a new school. Burlington County’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst sought to build an innovative school conducive for both traditional and non-traditional learning where kids can stay for many years. Parasoleil was tasked with creating a guardrail screen with a proposed outdoor nature pattern that also prevented children from climbing on the structure.
Parasoleil designed a guardrail screen using a Continuous-Organic pattern of trees as the focal point meshed with a Modular-Organic pattern for structural integrity and reduced hole sizes. Incorporated into the design was the client’s idea of openings in the panels for children to look out of at different heights, all while being safe and passing wind load requirements. The spans between the vertical posts were made as wide as possible by optimizing the structural performance of the pattern with the thickness of the aluminum.
