Project Background
Located in Key West, Florida, the overall project took inspiration from rusting hulks of foundered ships. This design aesthetic starts on the porte-cochere and is carried inside with a complimentary metal screen which provides a clean and consistent backdrop for the check-in lobby area. The screen panels are mounted at a two-inch offset from the wall using custom proprietary brackets that allow for continuous back lighting, as well as nearly invisible face mounted counter sunk fasteners. The screen is comprised of aluminum panels with a textured rust-like powdercoat finish, COR11, designed and developed by Parasoleil. This unique finish gives the appearance of a naturally formed weathering steel patina without the hassle and mess of actual rust that stains and rubs off on any passerby. This award-winning powdercoat finish provides a timeless texture, material protection, and UV resistance creating a truly maintenance free and visually stunning result. The lobby, previously enclosed, is completely opened to showcase views of the horizon. From a different vantage point, this openness allows a viewing to a weather wood sculpture waiting in the garden.
