Project Background
The scope included both exterior and interior panel applications with a goal of incorporating a "rusted" finish that wouldn't rub-off or stain adjacent materials or customers. The exterior applications consisted of wall mounted awnings above exterior windows and a stand-alone six-panel vertical screen adjacent to an outdoor sitting area. The shade offered by the awning assemblies help manage solar gain of the windows serving the interior spaces. The interior panel application consists of vertical wall mounted panels that serve as both decorative cladding and also as a railing for the second level over-look area above. There are also solid panels integrated into the front desk.
Approach
Parasoleil design team coordinated directly with the general contractor for a seamless project management approach including site meetings with installation crews to confirm site conditions and the most appropriate installation methods. A face-mount installation approach was chosen for the screen panels to offer a more continuous panel aesthetic facing the public areas. The awning panels were specified as solid with no pattern, offering maximum shading to windows and to celebrate the rich Cor 11 finish as an accent to the building exterior. The awnings also help bring a more human scale to the tall exterior public facing elevations of the building. The interior wall mounted panels include a relatively intricate custom pattern developed by the architect. A full scale mock-up panel with this custom pattern was initiated in advance by Parasoleils design team to confirm manufacturability, avoiding potential unexpected delays during the production stage. Also, a finite element computer analysis was performed to confirm guardrail building code requirements are met by the guardrail application on the second-floor overlook. Custom formed corner trim and edge panels were developed during the shop drawing stage maximize the continuous, clean design intent.
